Autumn Stories by Benjamin Morgan

Each season has its rewards for anyone fascinated with the wonderful world of flowers. From the excitement of returning favourites in spring, to the fragrance and abundance of summer, the colour and intensity of autumn and the stark contrast of the winter. There is a treasure trove of choice all year round. The ever-evolving natural shifts are why florists generally remain committed to the profession for a lifetime.
Whilst we celebrate the season we asked Moyses florist Benjamin Morgan, based at our Battersea store, about his thoughts on being a florist at this time of year.
'Autumn is my favourite season. It's nature's second spring, only more intense and magical. Autumn presents a wide range of interesting varieties, beautiful textures and intense colours. There's a particular atmosphere in Autumn and a distinct quality of light. The falling of the leaves, the fruits, the berries, the mist in the morning and the beautiful golden light at sunset, I find the season fascinating! I moved to London from Scottish Highlands. My mum is a florist, teacher and founder of Wild Gorse Studios based in the Belladrum Estate. So my love of flowers and nature runs in the family. It's a beautiful part of the world, and everyone living there cannot help but be connected to each season. Autumn, for me, is filled with nostalgia. I have so many memories of growing up and exploring the outdoors - it's such a beautiful time of year with an abundance of colour and many exciting finds. Although I am based in London, I love the contrast between the experience of the season in the Glen and how different but no less impactful it is living in a busy city like London. Autumn's scent, texture and colour continually evoke happy memories, and it's such a special time of year!'
