Chelsea in Bloom: King Kong for The Carlton Tower Jumeirah
24th May 2023
Chelsea in Bloom’s 2023 theme - ‘Flowers on Film’ was always going to inspire some blockbuster designs, but you don’t get much more iconic than a 4-metre tall King Kong made from moss! The 1933 monster-hit was the perfect inspiration for our friends at The Carlton Tower Jumeirah - not just because it would be an epic installation, but the building was the first tower hotel in London
Creating the structure was a mini-production in itself with no less than 15 crew bringing the movie in botanical form to life. Transforming the facade into a jungle of plants and foliage, the pillar was immersed in a greenery whilst King Kong was covered in black moss for texture, aiming to make him as realistic as possible. The final task was to suspend this incredible model to achieve the legendary climbing scene!
We’ve been thrilled by the wonderful reception to our marvellous inspired movie design - cemented by receiving a gold medal by the Chelsea in Bloom jury. A huge congratulations to the stars of the show - the Moyses Stevens Events team!
Don’t forget - Chelsea in Bloom is a free outdoor festival which is on until 28th May, be sure to pop by to see the mighty King Kong along with the other incredible floral artworks nearby.
