Flowers We Love - Proteas

When you think of big, statement flowers you’d be forgiven for thinking of the blousy varieties. But there is one that comes in a far most structural form, almost too precision-perfect to be true. Protea and all its array of guises possess true main character energy and steal the show in whatever setting it appears - and this week it’s striking display for our fabulous friends Nobu Hotel Portman Square.

The unmistakable fuschia pink petals of the King Protea beam like vintage footlights - regally tilting to display their dome-like centre. Not to be outshone however their taller, more spindly counterparts are Pincushion proteas with their spikey petals ablaze in a striking shade of orange and more hot pink.

Proteas are a diverse and captivating genus of flowering plants - from the large pink blossoms of the Queen Protea to the black feathery edges of the Mink specimen. It’s no wonder that florists clamber after these standout stems - not only do they make an impressive statement but they also have a long vase life.
