Flowers We Love This September
4th Sep 2023
September is here and has brought with it some welcome warmth (well for this week at least.) But it’s the flowers that the new month has ushered in that we’re more preoccupied by - as we transition seasons the last of the summer blooms come to the fore whilst a breadth of rustic texture and hues begin to emerge in the form of foliages and fruits. Here are just a few of our highlights.
Helenium
These cute-as-a-button beauties have a charming daisy-like appearance and their array of rich reds, yellows, and oranges make them ideal for sunset-toned arrangements. Heleniums compliment fellow meadow-style stems and blousy heroes alike.
Amaranthus
Striking Amaranthus gives its floral counterparts competition in the drama stakes. This plant comes in a variety of guises from the draping elegance of burgundy ‘Love Lies Bleeding’ to the proud tassles of golden ‘Hot Biscuits’.
Hydrangeas
These timeless blooms have already been making a splash throughout the summer but it’s the subtle, rustic hues that we start to appreciate in the mellower months. Think sage green petals with dusky pink edges and antique berry shades. beloved for their timeless beauty, don a dusky colour palette in September.
Strawflowers
Also known as Everlasting flowers owing to their papery petals, their vibrant hues shout summer while their texture offers more than a hint of autumn. These specimens weave amongst equally bright stems to form beautiful bouquets - and are equally charming in simple bud vases alongside other dry varieties like Lagarus grass (Bunny Tails.)
Crab Apple Boughs
Crab apple boughs make a triumphant return around this time of year, offering a gentle reminder of the impending harvest season. Their branches, laden with tiny apples, add a wholesome element to floral compositions - and their tall stature makes them a favourite with our Contracts team.
