Moyses Stevens Flower School: A Taste Of Autumn

Moyses Stevens Flower School: A Taste Of Autumn

Posted by Duncan McCabe on 2nd Oct 2022

Working with flowers is a privilege despite numerous challenges and enormous hard work. Florists, gardeners and other occupations connected with nature view the year through the prism of each season. The time of year is marked by changes in the leaves and the emergence of the latest flower varieties, and we love the opportunity to share that experience and celebrate each season with students at our school.

Senior Tutor Gemma explains.

'Autumn is characterised by a palette of colours that are unique to the season. Combinations of deep golds, burgundy and burned orange, can look out of place at other times of the year - the autumnal intensity wouldn't seem right in the spring, for instance. Many of our students have office-bound occupations, so a session working with flowers can be a chance to reset for a moment. Most people find the experience very therapeutic and are amazed at what they can create!'

Our Autumn programme of classes at Moyses Stevens Flower School is in full swing with a collection of lessons that celebrate this special time of year. We had heaps of fun in our first 'Taste of Autumn' class. Here are just a few of the comments from our students.

'Our Tutor Gemma was so good at explaining everything. I learned a lot from her. She was really helpful but also made it lots of fun. I loved the selection of flowers for the class. My bouquet was huge. I have small hands, so it's hard to hold that many flowers, but it was fun putting them together. I feel like I learned so much just being here. Even for the one class.'

'It was an entertaining outlet. My day job is very stressful. It was nice to use my brain differently, and Gemma taught us to be instinctive with placing the flowers. I found it very therapeutic, a fun way to spend an evening. Battersea Power Station is one of my favourite areas. There are loads of lovely restaurants. I mean, you can do this class, and you can go and have some dinner, some drinks, which is what we're going to be doing afterwards. And I think it's just a fun space to be in now.'

'I always have flowers and try to make arrangements at home. Sometimes my display turns out good. Sometimes, I find it frustrating. So I took the opportunity to learn at Moyses Stevens Flower School. I learned so much from the tutor. Especially about conditioning and care. Flowers make me happy, and I enjoyed the class so much!'
